Ask your legislator to end the clock change.

The fastest way to end Washington's biannual clock change is the Legislature. We would rather they do it. If they don't, we file in March and the voters decide in 2028. Enter your address to find your state senator and two representatives, then email or call them directly.

The ask: Please introduce or co-sponsor the Last Fall Back Act in the 2027 session, using authority Washington already has to end seasonal clock changes now, with an automatic transition to permanent daylight time if federal law changes. And please help make sure it gets a committee hearing and a floor vote. Four earlier bills had support and still never got one.

Hi, I'm a constituent in your district, writing about ending Washington's twice-yearly clock change.

Washington already decided this. SHB 1196 passed the House 90 to 6 and the Senate 46 to 2 in 2019, and it has never taken effect because it waits on Congress. Similar state-level bills followed: SB 5511 in 2022, SB 5795 in 2024, SB 5001 in 2025, and HB 2119 in 2026. The 2024 bill had thirteen bipartisan sponsors and support from the Association of Washington Business. None has reached a floor vote.

So my ask isn't just support. Please introduce or co-sponsor the Last Fall Back Act in the 2027 session, and please help make sure it gets a committee hearing and a floor vote.

The Act ends the clock change now using authority the state already has under the federal Uniform Time Act, and transitions Washington to permanent daylight time automatically if Congress acts. The 2019 policy stays the destination.

Ask them to hold a hearing and a vote. Not to agree with you, necessarily, since most of them already do. The last four times this came before the Legislature it had bipartisan sponsors and still never reached the floor. Support was never the problem.

We would rather the Legislature do this in 2027. If they don't, we file a citizens' initiative in March, gather signatures through the year, and put the same measure back in front of them in 2028 with a few hundred thousand names attached. If they decline again, it goes to the voters.
